CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS on Energy Lobby Day!

If you can't make it down to the Statehouse on February 16 to participate in our Energy Lobby Day event, fear not!  You can still make your voice for clean energy heard!  Simply pick up the phone, call your Senator and two Representatives and tell them why you think investing in Idaho's clean energy future is important.  It's easy, and your legislators need to hear from YOU!

Who are my legislators?

What are their phone numbers?

Open this legislative directory to find the office phone numbers for your legislators on pages 7-12.

Who's going to answer the phone?

The legislator may answer the phone, a secretary may answer the phone, or you may get their voice mail.  In any case, feel free to state your message for the legislator and say that you're from their district--that's it!  If you're speaking directly with your legislator, don't be intimidated.  They love to hear from their constituents and your voice and opinion is important to them.

What should I say?

Here are some examples of what you can communicate to your state representatives about clean energy:

• A personal story about a renewable energy or energy efficiency project you've been working on
• Your involvement in clean energy business or organizational work
• Your desire to end Idaho's dependance on coal-fired power (nearly half of our fuel mix)
• The need to generate green jobs and spur economic development in the state
• Your vision for a safe, clean, affordable energy future for Idaho

Remember to always thank your legislators for their time and hard work in the Legislature.

Here is a sample script:

Hello.  My name is Joe Windmill and I live in your district. 

I just wanted to let you know that I support clean energy development in Idaho and I want you to, too.  Enhancing energy efficiency programs in our electric utilities will save energy and, in the long run, money because it will offset the need to build more costly power plants.  I hope that you and other members of the Legislature will act on the recommendations in the 2012 Idaho Energy Plan to encourage energy efficiency improvements for residential, business, and government buildings, as well as through utility programs.  You have the power to shape Idaho's clean energy future, and I'm asking you to act quickly to protect our environment, our economy, and our health.  Please support clean energy policies for Idaho.
