Our Story
The natural beauty of Idaho, its clean water, and its unique way of life are a legacy we need to protect for our children. We have become dependent on out of date energy sources like coal-fired power, which has led to changes in our climate and environment. With the ability and ingenuity to meet our energy needs with faster, cleaner, safer, and cheaper energy solutions as well as conserving and practicing energy efficiency, Idaho can replace old forms of energy with clean and renewable sources like wind and solar to meet the demands for our state's future. By developing local and renewable energy sources that are abundant in Idaho, we will create green jobs, lessen our dependence on imported energy sources, build our local economies, provide affordable energy, and ensure a clean energy future. Together we can maintain Idaho's pristine environment and pass on a safer, cleaner future for our children.
What We Do at the Local Level
The Idaho Energy Collaborative provides Idaho energy efficiency principles for cities and counties. This local government outreach effort provides guidance to:
- Reduce energy use in city/county buildings measured in terms of targeted percentages or through reductions in a city/county's energy use index.
- Increase efficiency throughout the community, including in residences and private businesses, through the use of incentives and public education.
- Help communities commit to "Smart Growth" policies in all future city/county development
What We Do at the State Level
- Maintain campaigns that encourage legislative support of bolstering green jobs, renewable energy development, and energy efficiency initiatives in the state of Idaho.
- Write letters to the governor and present packets to legislators with information on energy and specific policy asks.
What We Do at the National Level
- Provide letters of support to coalitions working on renewable energy and energy efficiency objectives.
